Sampford Peverell and District Garden Club
Sampford Peverell Garden Club was formed in 1973 by a Mr Pottinger. Chairman Percy Denner. Treasurer Jack King. Secretary Percy Swain.
Mr Pottinger also gave the cup for the interclub quiz which still runs to-day. The garden club joined the Federation of Garden Clubs in Devon, in 1975 we took part in the federation quiz with teams from all over Devon we got through to the semi finals at Oakhampton which we won, the final was at Bicton College where we came first and won the Devon federation cup. For many years the club had around 60 members with many succesful shows and garden visits, also holidays to Garden Festivals around the country.
The village of Sampford Peverell is in Mid Devon and is close to the Blackdown Hills. We are equidistant between Exeter and Taunton, each about 18 miles distant, and less than a mile away from the M5 at junction 27.
The extremely picturesque Grand Western Canal flows through the village and is a haven for a large variety of wildlife.
